U.S. Squares Up To China, Demanding New Climate Agreement

The latest development in the climate-change negotiations saga pre-Copenhagen sees the U.S is squaring up to China, expressing opposition to merely strengthening the existing Kyoto protocol, urging rich countries to set up an agreement which would force countries to reduce emissions. China and developing nation largely oppose the U.S's determination to replace Kyoto, demanding it instead be strengthened. The EU are taking the U.S's side for the first time, agreeing that, "It's not enough and we need more," and it may be up to Europe to lead a third-way negotiation that can unite the U.S. and China.
